EVALUATION OF SOME PHYSICAL SEED TREATMENTS AGAINST Bipolaris sorokiniana ASSOCIATED WITH WHEAT SEEDS (Pages : 40 - 44)

R. PANNA, F. M. AMINUZZAMAN, M. R. ISLAM and M. H. M. B. BHUYAN

The experiment was conducted in the Seed Pathology Laboratory, Department of Plant Pathology, Sher-e Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka during June - December, 2007 to evaluate some physical seed treatments on seed germination and incidence of Bipolaris sorokiniana of wheat. The highest seed germination (94.17% was recorded in apparently healthy seed treated with brine solution @ 2% for 15 minutes followed by apparently healthy seed solarized for 5 hours (99.33%), apparently healthy seed polythene solarized for 5 hours (99.00%), apparently healthy seed treated with hot water at 52°C for 10 minutes (99.00%). Comparatively the lowest incidence of B. sorokiniana (1.50%) was observed in apparently healthy seeds treated with hot water a 52°C for 20 minutes followed by apparently healthy seeds polythene solarized for 15 hours (5.00%), apparently healthy seeds solarized for 15 hours (6.00%), apparently healthy seeds treated with brine solution @ 2% for 30 minutes (13.00%).
