The experiment was conducted at the Spices Research Centre of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), Sibgonj, Bogra from July–October 2013 to find out the optimum curing time and neck length of onion bulbs for better storage life. Three curing times of onion bulbs viz., 7, 14, and 21 days and three neck lengths of onion viz., 2, 4 and 6 cm were evaluated in two factors randomized complete block design. The seed bulbs were stored from July to October 2013. The variety BARI onion 5 was used as a test crop. The combined effect of curing time and neck length had a significant effect on physiological weight loss, rotten bulbs (%) and sprouted bulbs (%) of onion. The lowest weight loss (35.22%), rotten bulbs (9.86%) and sprouted bulbs (6.17%) were found in 14 days of curing with a 4 cm neck length after 120 days of storage. This treatment combination was found better compared to other treatments.Download
