PHOTOSYNTHESIS AND YIELD PERFORMANCE OF SESAME GENOTYPES UNDER DIFFERENT WATER LOGGING PERIOD (Pages : 15 - 19)
M.T. ISLAM, M. KHATOON, M.A. HAQUE AND S. RAHMANA pot experiment was conducted with 5 sesame genotypes viz., SM-8, SM-9, Binatil-2, SM-67 and SM-58 at BINA farm, Mymensingh during March to June 2016. Four water logging treatments viz., Control, 24, 48 and 72 hours were imposed at flowering stage of the sesame genotypes. Plant height, photosynthetic rate, total dry matter, yield and yield attributes gradually decreased with increasing water logging period. SM-58 showed the highest plant height, chlorophyll content, photosynthetic rate, number of seeds per capsule, 1000-seed weight, seed yield and harvest index. SM-58 and Binatil-2 survived and produced seed at the highest water logging period of 72 hours. SM-58 was intermediate and other two mutants SM-9 and SM-67 showed lower values of most of the characters. Among five genotypes the mutants SM-58 and SM-8 showed more tolerance to water logging followed by Binatil-2. Other mutants showed less tolerance to water logging. Download
