STUDIES ON THE GENETIC DIVERSITY OF OKRA(Abelmoschus esculentus L. Moench.) USING PEROXIDASE ISOZYME (Pages : 27 - 31)
M. SAIFULLAH AND M.G. RABBANIThe experiment was conducted with 116 okra genotypes using polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis in the Department of Horticulture, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh. There were eight different electrophoretic zymotypes was observed, all the zymotypes were polymorphic means presence of more than one band in each genotype. The genotypes were grouped in different polymorphic zymotypes, indicating considerable genetic diversity among the studied okra genotypes. Zymotypes frequency of peroxidase isozyme was maximum in cluster III followed by cluster IV, cluster I, cluster VI, cluster II, cluster VI and cluster VIII. The lowest zymotype frequency was in cluster IV. There are 8 electrophoretic zymotypes were observed and formed 29 bands at different Rf values varied from 0.05-0.42. Peroxidase band in 0.05 Rf values is constant but other bands were variable in different Rf’s. Similarity coefficient between different banding pairs was observed significantly different in studied okra genotypes. Zymotypes of higher frequency are the representative of less variation and the lower frequency of the genotypes in different zymotypes indicated random distribution of okra genotypes throughout the country.Download
